This week on CNN.com, it was reported by the Food and Drug Administration that over 1,742 recalls occurred in 2009 vs 426 in 2008, based on Gold Sheet, a trade publication on drug quality that monitors FDA findings.
Gold Sheet reported that Advantage Dose, accounted for more than half the recalls. Even excluding Advantage Dose, which has shut down, recalls jumped 50% last year.
The Gold Sheet report stated that 165 recalls in 2008 were drugs made or believed to be made, abroad. That was up 58% from 2008. The consequences of recalled drugs are not often seen until the damage has already been done, including:
- Hemorrhages leading to a stroke, which may prove fatal
- Heart attack
- Diabetes
- Internal organ damage
- Depression which may lead to suicide
Drug manufacturers expedite and cut corners to raise profits, so quality and safety is no longer the primary driver for manufacturing drugs. Increased competition from drug manufacturers abroad is also forcing US manufacturers to cut cost and research and we are here to help if you or a family member to assist with every step of pursuing a personal injury case. Our product liability lawyers have extensive experience in handling pharmaceutical injury claims, and can help you get on with your life with peace of mind, knowing you have been fully compensated under the law.

Medical malpractice takes many forms. The Chicago medical malpractice lawyers at Harvey L. Walner & Associates have seen a variety of medical malpractice cases, some more egregious than others. The most disturbing medical mistake is the one that could have been avoided with a little extra time, care, and attention. Failing to diagnosis cancer, for whatever reason, is a common type of medical malpractice in the Chicago medical community.
While we fully understand the rigorous schedules doctors are forced to keep, and we admire choosing such an admirable profession, we must hold those accountable who cause harm to others. By misdiagnosing cancer, you are shortening someone’s life.
Some of the most oft-misdiagnosed cancers are:
- Brain cancer
- Lung cancer
- Pancreatic cancer
- Colorectal cancer
- Bladder cancer
Cancer misdiagnosis can be attributed to:
- A non-cancerous (or benign) tumor is identified as malignant (cancerous)
- A cancerous lesion is missed in the biopsy procedure
- A malignant mass is diagnosed as benign
- Failure to refer a patient to a specialist for further testing
- A malignant tumor is misclassified as to type or misgraded as to aggressiveness
- Specimens are mishandled by pathology, or improperly read or interpreted
- Failure to follow up with a patient if cancer should have been suspected
- Failure to adequately screen for increased risk patients
- Failure to understand or notice the nature of a patient’s complaints
If you have suffered medical malpractice in the Chicago area, please contact our Chicago medical malpractice lawyers today to schedule a no-cost, confidential consultation.
